Puyol ´doesn´t see any problem´ with Neymar joining Real Madrid

Barcelona great Carles Puyol claims he would not see a problem with Neymar joining Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain.

The Brazil international sensationally quit Barca for PSG in a world-record move worth €222million in August, only to be swiftly linked with a transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Some have suggested Neymar only agreed to sign for the Ligue 1 powerhouse to ease his potential pathway to Madrid.

And while joining Los Blancos via the Parc des Princes would doubtless still be considered an unforgiveable betrayal among supporters of the Catalan giants, Puyol is realistic about the prospect.

I think he could join Madrid, yes, he told Brazilian newspaper Estadao.

I don t see any problem with it. He s a professional and it s not tha…

Werder Bremen 1 Borussia Dortmund 2: Piszczek winner denies fightback

Borussia Dortmund made a winning start to 2017 with a 2-1 victory over 10-man Werder Bremen in a tempestuous match at Weserstadion.

Thomas Tuchel s side arrived in Bremen hoping to end a run of three straight draws in the Bundesliga and Andre Schurrle scored his first league goal for the club to put them ahead after just five minutes.

Werder were unbeaten in five matches going into the game and did their best to contain Dortmund until the 38th minute, when goalkeeper Jaroslav Drobny was shown a straight red card for a dangerous challenge on Marco Reus as the Germany international raced through on goal.

Despite their numerical disadvantage, Bremen levelled the match after an hour when Fin Bartels raced clear of the Dortmund defence to score, but the visitors were…

While the Euros and Copa America may now officially be in the books, that doesn t mean we re done with the onslaught of international tournaments this summer courtesy of the Gold Cup. The USMNT was always going to do a good job of bouncing back after not qualifying for the 2018 World Cup, and yet, we somehow think they re starting to go above and beyond the initial expectations put in front of them. They re playing some really nice football and while gelling as a team unit is going to be the …

Records are there to be broken – Guardiola not concerned by new Liverpool benchmarks

Pep Guardiola does not appear overly concerned by the prospect of Liverpool shattering Manchester City s Premier League benchmarks, saying: Records are there to be broken .

City have won the Premier League under Guardiola in the past two seasons and, while they were pushed all the way by Liverpool last term, the 2017-18 success was similar to the Reds current tilt in its dominance.

Guardiola s side finished on a record 100 points, yet Liverpool have dropped only two points all season and look on course to surpass that total, while also troubling Arsenal s 49-match unbeaten run from 2003-04.

Asked about the prospect of Liverpool claiming such records ahead of City s FA Cup tie against Fulham, Guardiola said: Yes, it can happen.

Manchester United 0 Liverpool 0: Four first-half injuries mar tense encounter

Liverpool returned to the Premier League summit despite being held to a 0-0 draw by bitter rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford in a match that was marred by first-half injuries to four players.

After days of anticipation and excitement, the match swiftly descended into farce in the first period, as Ander Herrera, Juan Mata, Roberto Firmino and Jesse Lingard were all forced off injured, and the match struggled to recover from an entertainment perspective.

The medical staff were rather less busy in the second half and that allowed Liverpool to increase the pressure, generally dominating against a United effectively playing with 10 men due to Marcus Rashford struggling with a knock.

But the Reds could not take advantage, with United arguably happy to hold on to…

Juventus striker Vlahovic ´addicted´ to scoring goals

Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic claims he has an addiction to scoring goals.

The Serbia international has certainly done a good job of feeding that addiction, bagging 38 goals in 58 Serie A appearances for Fiorentina in the past two seasons before scoring seven in 15 for Juve following his big-money move in January.

Vlahovic joined the Bianconeri from Fiorentina for a reported fee of €70million and settled well into life in Turin, helping his new side clinch fourth place and a Champions League spot.

Speaking to Icon Magazine, the 22-year-old did not hold back when asked what scoring goals means to him.

It s something that fills me, he said.  It pervades me completely, so when I don t feel this emotion, after the game, I feel on the ground, empty.…

Agent doubts Foyth has a future at Spurs

There has been a lot of talk recently about the prospects for the future of Juan Foyth at Tottenham Hotspur. Apparently, Barcelona are interested in the young defender, but head coach Jose Mourinho refused to sanction a sale in January. Now, however, his agent doubts Foyth will be in north London for much longer.

The 22-year-old joined Spurs from Estudiantes in the summer of 2017 for just over £10 million. Since then he has made only 32 appearances in all competitions, despite his capability to perform well both as a centre-back and on the right defensive flank.

Claudio Curti, who represents Foyth, told TalkSPORT that everything that has been going on with his client in recent months makes his future with Spurs doubtful. He refused to comment on the way Mourinho is run…

MLS Review: Martinez equals single-season goalscoring record

Josef Martinez is on track to shatter the MLS single-season goalscoring record after taking his tally to 27 in Atlanta United s 3-1 win over Columbus Crew.

Venezuela international and former Torino forward Martinez tied the record with his 31st-minute goal against the visiting Crew on Sunday.

Martinez broke the deadlock for Eastern Conference leaders and Supporters Shield pacesetters Atlanta when the 25-year-old curled a shot past Columbus goalkeeper Zack Steffen.

That strike matched the achievements of Bradley Wright-Phillips (2014), Chris Wondolowski (2012) and Roy Lassiter (1996) with nine matches still remaining.

Historic. Unstoppable.

France star Lloris against biennial World Cups to retain ´precious element´

France s World Cup-winning captain Hugo Lloris and Germany team director Oliver Bierhoff both rubbished FIFA s idea of a biennial showpiece tournament.

FIFA held an online summit last month to discuss moving World Cups from occurring every four years to every two, which has already been met by strong opposition within UEFA.

Lloris – who won football s coveted trophy with France at Russia 2018 – argued the four-year cycle made World Cups more precious but also spoke about the impact on players with a growing football schedule.

I think the World Cup should be something quite rare, so the fact that you play it only every four years helps protect this precious element to it, Lloris said during a news conference ahead of France s Nations League semi-final against…

Jota ruled out of Liverpool run-in as Klopp reveals injury blow

Diogo Jota will miss the rest of Liverpool s season after suffering a foot injury in the win at Manchester United on Thursday.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp announced the setback on Sunday, ahead of the Premier League match at West Brom.

Klopp told Sky Sports: No good thing without a bad thing – so, we won at Manchester United but Diogo got something with the bone. Not too serious but serious enough to end the season. That s it.

The blow comes as Liverpool scramble for the wins that would lift them into the Champions League places.

Ahead of the West Brom game, Liverpool remained firmly in the hunt, sitting third, with Chelsea and FA Cup winners Leicester City in their sights.
