Gignac hints at Internazionale move; McCarthy staying put

In-form Olympique de Marseille striker Andre-Pierre Gignac is planning to leave the Stade Vélodrome at the end of the season, and the San Siro could be his destination.

The France international, 28, and compatriot Alexandre Lacazette (Olympique Lyonnais) are leading Ligue 1 with 11 goals this season.

Recent reports have linked Gignac with a summer move to the English Premier League, but the 28-year-old has hinted at a possible move to Italian Serie A giants Internazionale Milano.

I think I will leave at the end of the season, he told Gazzetta dello Sport. I want to know if Bielsa will stay, but I want a big challenge. I will consider all proposals carefully.

Inter are an institution and Mancini is a great coach. It would be great. I live for football and watch all the major leagues. I admire the tactical culture of Italy. And I have also played against Sampdoria at the Marassi the fans made a big impression on me.

Gignac, who joined Marseille from Toulouse for a fee of €18 million in the summer of 2010, will be free to sign with the club of his choosing when his contract expires at the end of the season.

McCarthy staying put

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has insisted the club are not looking to sell midfield enforcer James McCarthy despite reports linking the player with a January move to Arsenal.

The Republic of Ireland international, 24, joined the Toffees from Wigan Athletic in a deal worth £13 million before the start of the 2013/14 campaign.

McCarthy has since been linked with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United, but Martinez has reaffirmed that the 24-year-old is not for sale.

As you know, James McCarthy is someone that we rate very, very highly, Martinez said. Otherwise you would never make the sort of investment that we made on him just 16 months ago.

We are delighted with James form. I always believe James is a typical Everton player and that he can grow and get better.

He has got a long-term contract, he was a huge investment and, as I say, I always enjoy seeing good reports on our players.

I see the interest, or the potential interest, or the good compliments that people pay on James from the outside but James is a player we look forward to seeing in the Everton top for a long, long time.

A niggling hamstring problem will keep McCarthy out of Wednesday s league fixture against Hull City. As a result, Martinez will likely deploy Bosnia and Herzegovina international Muhamed Bešić alongside Gareth Barry in central midfield.
